State Legislation allowing Lawrence to deficit borrow to balance the 2010 and 2011 city budgets to be decided on by the state legislature.

My name is Patrick J Blanchette and I reside at 215 Ferry Street on Prospect Hill. I graduated from Central Catholic High School and have a Bachelor’s degree from Suffolk University. I am a life-long Lawrence resident and a 5 term Lawrence City Councilor from District A. The people of Prospect Hill have placed their trust in me for the past 10 years as the District A City Councilor and my colleagues on the City Council have chosen me for the past 6 years to be City Council President. I also work full-time for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Conciliator with the Department of Industrial Accidents. I am currently on a leave of absence to pursue my journey to become the next Mayor of Lawrence.

Devers, Marco A. – Candidate for Mayor

Marcos Devers was born on October 25th, 1950, in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic. He attended elementary school in Villa Duarte, a neighborhood in the eastern part of Santo Domingo. He graduated from high school and later obtained a degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo in 1978. He also received several post-graduate courses in Japan and Italy. He became a respected professional who wrote technical documents relevant to the infrastructural development in the Dominican Republic.

Álvarez-Rodríguez, Nilka – Candidate for Mayor

Nilka is a democrat, whose political definition and career was the result of her quests to understand the nature of her father’s suicide in 1969. Her understanding was fed by her formal education and 30 years (NYS 19 years & MA 11 years) of human service work and community activism. She found that while the rest of the country was doing fine, NYC faced a recession. Politicians and entrepreneurs allowed manufacturing to leave to transform NYC into the financial capital of the world. Fathers unable to find employment committed suicide or turned to substance abuse, domestic violence, and crime. Mothers were left to rebuild and to become the anchors of their communities. Said discovery gave Nilka the real meaning of the saying “the personal is political.”
