He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and has taken Graduate courses at UMass Lowell, Salem State College, and Endicott College. Between 1984 and 1998, he taught in various places: Santurce Community College in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Greater Lawrence Technical School, and Lawrence High School. Since 1987, he has been a Massachusetts Registered Professional Engineer and is the CEO of MDJ Inc. Engineering and Construction. He served on the Lawrence City Council from 2000 to 2006 as Councilor At Large, Council Vice President, and Council President and was the Interim Mayor of Lawrence from September to December, 2001.

He works at the State House and for the Lawrence School District. He was a member of the Exchange Club in Lawrence and a founding member and first Treasurer of the Club Cultural Latino Americano.

He served on the National Guard for 19 years and was in Iraq as a military police officer for 11 months. Gadea has been a city engineer for the past nine years.
