After attending Princeton and Harvard Business School and serving in the military, he joined the family business and became its president in 1975. Grossman has changed the company, entering new markets and implementing environmentally sustainable business practices. Grossman is involved with various community organizations and through them is dedicated to helping the lower and middle classes and promoting interreligious and interracial connections. Over the years, he has been very involved in Democratic Party politics. Grossman was elected the chair of the Massachusetts Democratic Party in 1991, was part of the presidential campaigns of both Michael Dukakis and Bill Clinton, who later asked him to chair the Democratic National Committee, and ran for governor of Massachusetts in 2002.
Financial Strategies:

Keep businesses in-state, specifically with the help of the state’s Economically Targeted Investment (ETI) Program.

Increase financial literacy by utilizing technology to provide information and education and by working with non-profit/community organizations to provide financial literacy tools to the people.

Invest in education, especially high schools and community colleges, to provide adequate education and skills training to develop a valuable, strong workforce.

Maintain state lottery revenues and support casinos in Massachusetts.

Promote transparency in the pension system and reform it by implementing a cap, raising the retirement age, increasing the years of salary used to calculate pension, and limiting “spiking” (pay raises at the end of one’s career intended to boost one’s pension).

Support the “Say on Pay” bill which puts a check on corporate operations and executive pay.
